Treatment Guidelines
Rocky Mountain AquaTech will
test your water systems on a regular basis (monthly) to monitor the progress of
the treatment and to make necessary adjustments and recommendations.
Regular testing is
critical to the success of the water treatment program,
and we recommend that our clients perform weekly tests to monitor the system
when we can’t be there...
Chilled and Hot Closed Loops must be considered as seriously as any
other system in your facility. We design this treatment based on the following
considerations:
- Effective January 1, 2007, Molybdate can no longer be used in systems that drain into Denver.
- Wastewater.
As such we have removed Molybdate from products subject to this EPA
restriction.
- Industry
standards recommend 700 ppm of Nitrite in new-construction facilities.
- In systems that were
previously treated with Molybdate, we blend Nitrite at approx. 300 ppm.
- Nitrite
corrosion inhibitor provide protection to carbon steel and alloys.
- Copper and copper based
alloys require an azole to provide corrosion protection.
- Our Closed Loop Treatment
Blends contain tolyltriazole to help reduce copper corrosion.
- We recommend adding
propylene glycol to any system that requires freeze protection.

Steam Boiler Water System (Medical, Process, Humidification, etc.) is
a six step process:
- Use a softener (when
necessary) the remove calcium and magnesium from the make-up water.
- To the dearator, add
oxygen scavenger to prevent oxygen pitting on heated boiler surfaces.
- To the feed water tank,
add caustic to provide alkalinity control to the boiler water.
- To the feed water tank,
add sludge conditioner to prepare the boiler water for blowdown.
- To the steam header, add
return line treatment to neutralize the condensate returning to the boiler.
- Install a controller to
provide automatic blowdown to maintain an efficient cycle of concentration
(TDS).

Cooling Water System (Chiller, Open Condenser or Evaporative Cooling
Tower) is based on three guiding principles:
- System bleed is controlled
by the conductivity of the water (measure of total dissolved solids).
- Scale and Corrosion
Inhibitor is fed to the system based on metered make-up.
- Dual Alternating Biocides
are fed to the system to control microbiological activity.
